Hen Night Dos and Do Nots

As chief bridesmaid it is your job to organise the perfect hen night – no pressure then! Hen nights can be just as raucous as stag parties – no doubt the bride is already having nightmares about being decked out in L plates and forced to dance on tables. Or maybe not... Follow our fool-proof dos and do nots to give the bride to be a hen night to remember.

Do get some ideas from the bride before starting to plan the hen night. As bridesmaid you should know her pretty well – would she prefer a quiet meal with a few friends or a weekend shopping and clubbing till you drop?

Do not have the hen night too close to the wedding – and not just to avoid bags under the brides weary eyes on the big day. The run up to the wedding will be filled with last minute details to organise – for the bridesmaid as well as the bride and groom – so it is best to conserve your energy.

Do something special that none of the hen guests will have done before. This is the way to make the event truly memorable. Ask around for ideas then let your imagination run wild!

Do not let the bride do anything she will regret the next day. It may seem funny at the time, but you will all have to look the groom in the eye on the big day. No snogging dares or topless dancing please. It is the bridesmaids job to keep on top of things – no matter how drunk the bride gets.

Do arrange a hen night that lets the bride spend time with all of her guests. Often hen guests are friends, former work colleagues, or family the bride to be does not get to see very often – and she probably will not get to spend much time with them at the wedding! Give everyone a chance to have a little piece of her.

Do not do anything that might get the bride hurt! Activity weekends are great fun, but watch out for broken bones and black eyes – not so attractive in the wedding photos. (This is another good reason for leaving plenty of time in between the hen night and the wedding.)

Do remember to organise a hen night gift that is special and relevant to the bride. engraved glasses or an engraved champagne gift are both great hen party gift idea – get them printed with the date and venue of the hen night so the event goes down in history!

Do not forget to start the night with a bang. champagne bottles and drinking games are a great idea for breaking the ice and lowering inhibitions. Just remember though, as bridesmaid it is your job to keep an eye on the bride and make sure she and her guests have a fabulous but safe hen party.
