As
best man it is your job to organise the perfect stag night – no pressure then! Stag nights can be raucous events – no doubt the groom is already having nightmares about being stripped and hand-cuffed to a lamppost miles away from civilisation.
Although there are many things that can go wrong with a stag night, if you follow our dos and don’ts you can promise the groom a night to remember – for all the right reasons!
Do get some ideas from the groom before starting to plan the stag night. As best man you should know him pretty well – but is a night in a lap-dancing bar your idea of a good time or his?
Don’t have the stag night to close to the wedding – and not just to avoid hangovers on the big day. The run up to the wedding will be filled with last minute details to organise – for the best man as well as the bride and groom – so it’s best to conserve your energy.
Do something special that none of the stag guests have done before. This is the way to make the event truly memorable. Ask around for ideas then let your imagination run wild!
Don’t let the groom do anything he will regret the next day. It may seem funny at the time, but you’ll all have to look the bride in the eye on the big day. It’s the best man’s job to keep on top of things – no matter how drunk the groom gets.
Do arrange a stag night that lets the groom spend time with all of his guests. A poker night might sound like fun but will all the guests get the best out of it?
Don’t do anything that might get the groom hurt! Activity weekends are great fun, but watch out for broken bones and black eyes – not so attractive in the wedding photos. (Another good reason for leaving lots of time in between the stag night and the wedding.)
Do remember to organise something special and relevant to the groom. Personalised T-shirts are one idea – get them printed with the date and venue of the stag night so the event goes down in history!
Don’t forget to start the night with a bang. Drinking games are a great idea for breaking the ice and lowering inhibitions. Just remember – as best man it’s your job to keep an eye on the groom.
